Nestled in the woods on the grounds of this Historic Southern Inn, Woodlands Inn features two tennis courts of the red clay, like tennis courts typically found in Europe and South America. These clay courts is different to the traditional green Har-Tru clay courts traditionally associated with U.S. tennis. The Red Clay courts offer slower play and require more grooming attention than Har-Tru "American" clay or green courts. Woodlands Inn's tennis courts are expertly maintained using the hotel's underground watering system , maintaining just the right amount of moisture, offering perfect tennis play conditions year around.
Hotel Tennis Pro Lessons and Clinics Guests can participate in weekly tennis clinics hosted by Woodlands Inn's Tennis Pro and Director, Heinz Maurer on Wednesday afternoons. Junior tennis clinics run from 5-6 p.m., while adult tennis clinics take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Private and group tennis lessons are also available and may be scheduled through the Concierge.
Heinz is a certified USPTA Tennis Pro with over 27 years of tennis instruction experience. He has taught numerous juniors who have been awarded tennis scholarships throughout South Carolina. In addition, he is also currently the boys and girls Varsity tennis coach at Pinewood Prep, a Summerville, SC, 800-student College Preparatory school.
